Historias Nórdicas De La Abuela Vikinga: Demo

This band is apparently from Mexico. A band from Mexico writing songs about the mighty Vikings makes about as much sense as a band from America writing songs about ancient Egypt. The conundrum here is the fact that they’re doing more of a mimic job than anything else.

Aparentemente, esta banda es de México. Una banda mexicana escribiendo canciones acerca de vikingos tiene tanto sentido para mí como una banda estadounidense con letras acerca del antiguo Egipto. Lo curioso aquí es que en realidad están haciendo una imitación más que otra cosa.

I enjoyed the songs performed in Spanish more than the ones sang in English for the same reason I cant listen to Nightwish, the simple fact that the English is very delicious. And don’t get me wrong, I can empathize with these hombre’s, English are my second delicious language also, I’m what’s locally called a Dutchman (but not Dutch), my kind are world renowned for the worst English syntax, grammar and body odour in the known universe.

Disfruté más las canciones en español que las cantadas en inglés por el mismo motivo por el que no puedo escuchar a Nightwish: el simple hecho de que su inglés no sea “tan exquisito”. No lo tomen a mal, siento empatía por estos tipos, mi segundo idioma es el inglés pues soy lo que localmente se llama un Dutchman o Afrikaner, y yo y los míos somos renombrados por tener la peor sintaxis y gramática en inglés, así como el peor olor corporal en todo el universo conocido.

By the sound of the music and the picture provided I can tell these muchachos are going to keep doing this weather we like it or not, so I’ll break it down for you:

Por el sonido y la fotografía proveídos por ellos, me es fácil decir que estos muchachos seguirán haciendo lo que sea que hagan sin importar si nos gusta o no, así que aquí va:

The band is not tight, at all, not even a bit. Normally on a demo this could be overlooked. By the sound of things the members are all proficient, but they’re not coming together as a group (See what I did there?), hence the ideas are not working because its happening all over the place (and nailed it again), and they probably have been playing together for a while, so it sounds just dandy to them. (Note to the band, Google the words “tight” and “band”, but together, and apply remedies provided with immediate effect, then call me in the morning).

La banda no es sólida, ni siquiera un poco. Normalmente en un demo, ello puede ser pasado por alto. Por como suenan, los miembros parecen ser todos bastante competentes, pero no acaban de llegar a ser un grupo como tal (nótese el ingenio), de ahí que la ideas no funcionen del todo porque están esparcidas por todos lados (de nuevo). Probablemente, la banda ha tocado junta por algún tiempo, así que para ellos ha de sonar bien. (Nota para la banda, googleen las palabras “tight” y “band” juntas y empleen los remedios dados inmediatamente, después llámenme la mañana siguiente).

I’m risking an explosion somewhere in Mexico as the guitarist has his ego popped, but it has to be done. The guitar solos are pretty bad, about cringe-worthy in fact, and I’m trying to be a nice guy here. Someone forgot to tune their guitar perhaps? Rolled back too much on the drive there.

Me arriesgo a una explosión en algún lugar de México a raíz de cagar el ego del guitarro, pero es necesario. Los solos de guitarra son bastante malos, vergonzosos de hecho, y eso que lo estoy diciendo suavecito. ¿Quizá a alguien se le olvidó afinar la lira? Demasiadas vueltas para atrás en el clavijero.

Songwriting is fair, but there are not enough hooks to keep you interested, and they don’t stray far from their influences, I’m hearing other bands, not Historrias Nórdicas de la abuela Vikinga. The grunt grunt vocals don’t come through clearly, although I suspect the recording is mostly to blame, mostly.

La composición es decente, pero no hay suficientes ganchos como para mantenerte interesado, además de que nunca se alejan demasiado de sus influencias. Se escucha a otras bandas, no a Historias Nórdicas de la Abuela Vikinga. Las voces guturales no se escuchan claramente, aunque sospecho que principalmente la culpable es la grabación. Principalmente.

And last but not least, ‘Historrias Nórdicas de la abuela Vikinga’. Is this the name of the band or the album? It is extremely long, a big ball-ache to type, and most ‘journalists’ or reviewers like ourselves would avoid it at a glance, not good when trying to generate publicity.

Y por último pero no menos importante, ‘Historias Nórdicas de la Abuela Vikinga’ es el nombre de la banda o del disco? Es extremadamente largo, un gran dolor en las bolas para escribir, y la mayoría de los “reseñistas” lo evitaríamos a la primera, y eso no es bueno a la hora de hacer publicidad.

There is something extremely likable about this band, I think they do it with the spirit of metal bla bla bla, with a bit of effort and dedication and a generous dash of Tabasco, it could be good, pretty fucking good, like 8/10.

Hay algo particularmente agradable acerca de esta banda, creo que lo hace con el espíritu del metal bla bla bla bla, con un poco de esfuerzo y dedicación, y una buena salseada de Tabasco, podrían ser buenos, bastante pinche buenos, como de 8/10.

Their only useful site seems to be Farcebook, not even an Encyclopaedia Metallum listing. I’m not going to risk contracting some digital venereal disease just to get some band’s info, so nuts to that.

Su único sitio en operación parece ser Farcebook, ni siquiera aparecen en Encyclopaedia Metallum. No me voy a arriesgar a contraer alguna enfermedad venérea digital buscando información de alguna banda, no estoy tan loco.
